DESIGN CONCEPT:

The Lahti City Theatre was designed as a total work of art, where the architecture and interior, extending even to the outdoor plaza, form a cohesive whole. The building has three auditoriums, complemented by a foyer that can be used for events throughout the day.

The carefully detailed interior is complemented by furniture and textiles designed by renowned Finnish furniture designer Yrjö Kukkapuro, working in close collaboration with architect Pekka Salminen. The light and colourful furniture, including the “Cloud” chairs in the foyer, were custom-designed for this project to form a playful contrast to the bare concrete surfaces.

The theatre was selected by Docomomo Finland into its register of modern Finnish architectural masterpieces in 2023.
